In his series “Explosions in the Sky,” the photographer Nick Pacione offers a unique view of the chain reactions in a fireworks display, at a macro scale. Pacione uses a prolonged exposure and a rack-focus technique, by which one alters the focus of the lens during an exposure, to transform the fireworks into abstractions of light and color. Above is a selection of images from the series, photographed during a fireworks show in Pacione’s home town of Dallas.
